Our Background

Carew Lawyers was established in 1984 by Richard Carew as a general legal practice based in West End, Brisbane.

By the mid-1990's when the firm had moved to modern offices adjacent to the Supreme Court it
had narrowed it's areas of practice primarily to criminal defence and plaintiff personal injury litigation.

Because we act for so many clients in and around the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast areas, to ensure that we provide the best, timely and cost efficient service to our current and future Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and hinterland clients we have offices at Southport and Maroochydore. Our office at Southport is located at First Floor, 100 Scarborough Street, Southport. It is directly opposite the Southport Court House and Southport Police Station. Our office on the Sunshine Coast is located at Pikki Street Corporate Centre, 8 Pikki Street, Maroochydore.

The firm currently represents injured victims of workplace, motor vehicle and other accidents as well as people who have been charged with criminal and driving offences.

The firm has achieved significant success across the entire court system, including in the Queensland Court of Appeal and the High Court of Australia.

The firm’s commitment to the cause of injured plaintiffs is reflected by our lawyers’ membership of the Australian Lawyers Alliance, the country's premier legal organisation protecting the rights of injured people.

Our Services

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIMS: NO-WIN NO-FEE

The firm conducts personal injury litigation for injured plaintiffs on a no-win no-fee basis. That is, subject to the terms of our client agreement, we will carry the cost of our fees, and in most cases the legal and medical outlays as well, until the conclusion of the claim. Personal injury claims require expert advice and representation.
Your choice of lawyer will make a difference to the amount of compensation you receive.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS
• MOTOR VEHICLES • MOTORCYCLES/BIKES • PEDESTRIANS

The firm has experience handling multi-million dollar injury claims arising out of motor vehicle accidents. Often what at first appears to be a minor soft tissue injury can have significant consequences that may result in lengthy periods of time off work and a requirement for extensive physiotherapy treatment.
The Queensland Parliament has applied strict time limits for victims of motor vehicle accidents and prompt legal assistance is essential to ensure an injured person's rights are protected.

WORKPLACE ACCIDENTS
• EMPLOYEE • SELF EMPLOYED • CONTACTOR

Many people are injured at work each year in Queensland. We represent clients who suffer repetitive strain injuries, are injured while performing manual labour such as lifting and load carrying, and are the victims of plant and machinery failures. Carew Lawyers represent victims of workplace injury against negligent employers and WorkCover Queensland. This area of law is complicated and expert legal advice is required at an early stage.

PUBLIC PLACE ACCIDENTS
• SHOPPING CENTRES • FOOTPATHS • RESIDENTIAL

Shopping centres and other public and private places are often the scene of slipping and other accidents. These injury victims have a right to claim compensation against the owner of the premises. As with workplace injury claims, these cases require expert legal advice to ensure the injury is properly assessed and the claimant's full entitlement to compensation is recovered.

CRIMINAL LAW
• ASSAULT • FRAUD / STEALING • DRUG CHARGES
• CUSTOMS / IMMIGRATION • INVESTIGATIONS / INQUIRIES
• SEXUAL MISCONDUCT • BAIL APPLICATIONS • APPEALS

For over twenty years the firm has represented defendants in criminal law matters, including appeals and Inquiries. The firm has represented clients charged with offences such as drink driving and resisting arrest to murder and drug trafficking, and has appeared in all State and Federal Courts, including the High Court of Australia. Prompt legal advice can greatly assist the defence of a criminal charge.

TRAFFIC OFFENCES
• DRINK DRIVING • DANGEROUS DRIVING • CARELESS DRIVING
• APPLICATIONS FOR WORK LICENSES

The firm has particular expertise in the law of traffic offences. The loss of a driver's license can cause significant financial harm and it is often wise to retain an experienced and specialist lawyer in this field. Even in cases where the loss of a license can't be avoided, the period of disqualification and the amount of fines can be kept to a minimum with effective legal representation.
